The First
District ranks among the strong Americanism-Patriotism Groups of the
Department of Louisiana. The seven units and 580 members of this district, though small and
concentrated within the City of New Orleans, offers leadership and a
different Auxiliary history. This is borne out in that among the first
leaders of the American Legion Auxiliary, were strong, motivated women
from within the District. New Orleans has served as the site for several
successful National Conventions of The American Legion and American
Legion Auxiliary, the most recent just completed in September 1998.
