Welcome to the American Legion Auxiliary Department of Louisiana
About Us

The American Legion Auxiliary shines as an example of unselfish giving. With almost a million members from all walks of life, the Auxiliary administers hundreds of volunteer programs, gives tens of thousands of hours to its communities and to veterans, and raises millions of dollars to support its own programs as well as other worthwhile charities familiar to most Americans. It is all accomplished with volunteers.

The Auxiliary, organized in 1919 to assist The American Legion, is much more than the name implies. The organization has achieved its own unique identity while working side-by-side with the veterans who belong to The American Legion. Like the Legion, the Auxiliary's interests have broadened to encompass the entire community.

The American Legion Auxiliary is the world's largest women's patriotic service organization. Through its nearly 10,500 units located in every state and some foreign countries, the Auxiliary embodies the spirit of America that has prevailed through war and peace. Along with The American Legion, it solidly stands behind America and her ideals.

Preamble

For God and Country, we associate ourselves together for the following purposes:

To uphold and defend the constitution of the United States of America; to maintain law and order; to foster and perpetuate a one hundred percent Americanism; to preserve the memories and incidents of our associations during the Great Wars; to inculcate a sense of individual obligation to the community, state and nation; to combat the autocracy of both the classes and the masses; to make right the master of might; to promote peace and goodwill on earth; to safeguard and transmit to posterity the principles of justice, freedom, and democracy; to participate in and contribute to the accomplishment of the aims and purposes of The American Legion; to consecrate and sanctify our association by our devotion to mutual helpfulness

Our Department President
Barbara White
2010-2011

In 1995 my best friend asked me to join the American Legion Auxiliary. I knew nothing about the organization. My eligibility came from my deceased husband, Eldridge White. As a young girl I read all kinds of books pertaining to joining the Military. Unfortunately that didn't?t happen. I wanted to become a Nurse. Well that eventually happened. I worked as an LPN for ten years. I have been in the American Legion Auxiliary for fifteen years. I belong to LeJeune-Boudreaux American Legion Auxiliary Unit 271. Through the years I have worked Chairmanships in Unit, District, and Department. I went up the chairs in the Mighty Third District and won District President of the Year. I went up all the chairs in Department and it's an honor and a privilege to serve as you Department President for the year 2010-2011.

For God and Country,

Barbara White, Department President

THANK YOU

I want to say THANK YOU to all who made the 2010 Workshop a success.  There are so very many of you to thank and so I will try to do my best not to miss anyone....

The 111 members who signed in on Saturday (some attended on Friday afternoon as well) - thank you for coming.  The ladies who provided door prizes - 36 prizes were given out on Saturday - we had an array of very nice prizes.   Several more were given out on Friday, too.  The snacks were a big hit!  Thanks to all of you who baked or otherwise brought all of the snacks.  Everyone enjoyed getting new recipes to try so thank you for making the copies to share.  I appreciated all of the help in setting up the room and to those who assisted with arranging and serving the snacks.

How generous many of you were to our veterans.  The outpouring of your kindness was reflected in the hundreds of items you brought to share among our veterans throughout the state.  There were socks, baeballs cap, various comfort items, pill boxes, playing cards, puzzle books and much more.  I know that our veterans will appreciate everything you brought for them.  The VAVS reps were thrilled to have so much to take back to their respective hospital, veterans home or clinic.

Thanks to all of you who signed get well for a few of our members who were under the weather.  I mailed them and I'm sure they were happy to be remembered.

Last but not least are the wonderful ladies who made presentations both on Friday and Saturday.  You all went to a lot of trouble to make things fun and interesting.  It was a job well done by all of you.  Members said they  were glad to get handouts to take back to their units for the members who were unable to attend.  You all went above and beyond to make your presentations a little bit different and informative.  Many ladies expressed compliments on the workshop and thanks to the dedication of all in attendance it was a day well spent.

Hoping everyone is well.  Sending my best to all,

Linda Petit
Workshop Resources Chairman
